What is this site?

During my writing tenure, I had a tendency to reflect back on historic feats and memorable moments. In fact, when Recorder editor Tim Blagg started the Quabbin Valley Voices - a monthly supplement geared toward the Athol-Orange area - most of my pieces were historical ones. It was because of QVV that I learned Athol was once a hockey power and played for the state title in the old Boston Garden while its baseball counterparts lost in the 1938 state finals at famed Fenway Park.

The problem with going back to the past, however, was that there was no one specific place for me to go to get my needed information. Many hours, days, weeks and months were spent reading microfilm and calling other sources just to get the most accurate information possible. As I kept gathering research, I realized I needed to store it all in one easy-to-find place so I could refer to it later. And not just for my use, but for others in the area as well. Thanks to my niece and site designer Heather Plotkin, along with many people who urged me to do this, especially my wonderful family, that place is now called Acehsfolklore.com.

This will be a continual work in progress and will include everything from statistics - those newspaper readers see often and those never before compiled - to reflections from myself and other local sports reporters on the great high school athletes, teams and coaches Franklin County and the North Quabbin Region has had.

There will be no specific order in which sports will be posted here or how far back I went. Although I will say most will have been in my lifetime - 1966 to present. Also, some sports will be more detailed sections than others. That's because some have more subject matter and more available statistics than others.

I have started with basketball and football because I have been researching those sports the most. Current Recorder writer Mark Durant has helped me launch volleyball and has tons of Greenfield ice hockey information ready to post as well. Hopefully, in the coming months, I will add a section for each sport, as well as photos and a blog.
